1. Select the Inbox tab in the footer
2. Tap the (pencil in a square) button in the upper right (under the battery icon) to start a new conversation
3. Enter a 10-digit number or textPlus username in the "To:" field and hit return
4. Tap the entry field on top of the keyboard and enter your first message to this person
5. Hit the send button to send out the message
